What lovely people, my old labrador was at end of life and The Gables Veterinary Centre went above and beyond caring for not only Bo but being supportive of our last caring decision for our old friend. Thank you so much, I wish I could give 10 stars.

We've been taking Bruce to Bruce's Vets since he was a puppy and have always had a great experience. The team are friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable, and they always make a fuss of Bruce. He especially loves the treats he gets when he visits! We've also found the Health for Life Plan to be excellent value. The annual booster and kennel cough vaccinations are included, and the email reminders for flea and worming treatments make it really easy to stay on top of everything. If you're running low, there's a handy link in the email to reorder, and the medication is ready to collect from the practice shortly afterwards. A fantastic team who genuinely care about the animals they look after. I'd happily recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. 🐾

Used to be a fantastic vets Very disappointing after over 20 years as a customer We have used Gables Vets for over 20 years, going back to when the practice was owned by Mick, and unfortunately the practice now feels very different from the one we trusted for so many years. Our recent experience has left us extremely disappointed. During a consultation, we were presented with options including X-rays, possible biopsy, tooth extraction and even discussion around the possibility of removing part of our dog’s lower jaw. The proposed investigation/treatment was going to cost in the region of £715. Concerned by how quickly things appeared to have escalated to invasive investigations and worst-case scenarios, we sought a second opinion. The second vet prescribed seven days of antibiotics and pain relief at a cost of around £70. Thankfully, that treatment worked and resolved the problem. What makes this particularly concerning is that Gables subsequently acknowledged in their response to my complaint that a tooth-root abscess had been one of the possible diagnoses and that pain relief and antibiotics could be used to treat it. My question remains: why wasn’t that simple, inexpensive and non-invasive option offered to us first, with further investigation only if it failed? Unfortunately, this is also the second concerning experience we have had with the same vet. Previously, our dog Ripp was assessed as having allergies, when it subsequently turned out that he had a grass seed lodged in his jowl. We only took Ripp to another veterinary practice on that occasion because Gables couldn’t offer an appointment for more than four days and we were concerned about leaving him suffering. I raised these issues formally with Gables because, after more than two decades as customers, I felt they deserved the opportunity to address our concerns. They have agreed to waive the disputed consultation fee as a “gesture of goodwill”, although given the circumstances I don’t personally view refunding a disputed consultation as goodwill. Most disappointing of all was being told that they felt the relationship between ourselves and the practice had broken down and suggesting that we register our animals elsewhere. We have never objected to paying for veterinary treatment our animals genuinely need. Our concern is that treatment should be necessary, proportionate and focused on the welfare of the animal, with sensible conservative options considered where appropriate before moving towards expensive and invasive investigations. After more than 20 years of loyalty to Gables, it is genuinely sad to feel this way. The practice we knew years ago felt focused on doing what was best for the animal. Based on our recent experiences, we no longer have the same confidence, and it increasingly feels to us as though the commercial side of treatment has become more prominent. That is incredibly disappointing after trusting the practice with our animals for so long.

A cover up in August when they pts a cat from jennys cat house that got severely ill in rescue after just a few weeks and was left for days suffering in rescue without contacting a vet! Zero empathy of the vet who put the cat to sleep refusing to speak to me when the rescue told me they would. The rescue should be ashamed and so should this vets for colluding with them.

Always experience great service at this vets, have recently changed from another practice and the difference in care is incredible. All the staff are friendly and professional, the admin team always make a fuss of my dog and turn what could be a stressful situation into an easy experience.
