We recently had to say goodbye to our beautiful boy Bane who was cared for most of his life by peel vets in Hornsea. We got Baney- boy at 8 weeks old, he was almost 11 years old when he crossed the rainbow bridge. Bane suddenly out of the blue became really poorly and Peel Vets just leaped into action. They never made us wait around for an appointment, they just told us to come straight down and they fit us in. They knew how serious it was and treated it that way. There were a few points where we were obviously really upset and overwhelmed, and they were just so kind. At one point they basically said don’t worry about payment right now, we can sort all that later. That meant so much because the last thing you want when you’re crying your eyes out is stood at reception trying to sort a bill. They genuinely cared about Bane and what was right for him. They didn’t push loads of unnecessary or heroic treatments or try to keep going when it became clear there was no coming back from what was happening. They were honest with us, but never cold about it. They gave us the facts and let us make the decisions without pressuring us either way. When we got to the point where we knew we were going to lose him, they made a private room for us and let us take our time to say our goodbyes without pressure. We got to sit with him, cuddle him, kiss him and say goodbye properly. They were angels to us. We’ve got his ashes back now and they’ve done paw prints, nose prints and little keepsakes with his fur in them. We had him back home within 48 hours.
